We are pleased to announce that the magazine series “The Law of Internet of Brains” will be published as a book. This book is produced by the “Internet of Brains”-Society (IoB-S) project, led by Dr. Keigo Komamura, Professor at the Faculty of Law, Keio University and a Principal Investigator of the Development of Fundamental Technologies Team, under the Moonshot Goal 1 Kanai Project “Internet of Brains (IoB)”.
The book is titled as “The Law of Internet of Brains: Foundations of Neurolaw and Case Studies” (Nippon Hyoron-sha Co., Ltd.).
This book is based on two years of serialized content, edited by Dr. Keigo Komamura and IoB-S, and is the first work in Japan to focus on “neurolaw.” Dr. Ryota Kanai, Dr. Junichi Ushiba, and Dr. Shuntaro Sasai from IoB participated in the roundtable discussion.
We encourage anyone interested in neurolaw, neurotech, and legal issues associated with the social implementation of other cutting-edge scientific technologies to read this book.
Comment from Dr. Keigo Komamura, Chief Editor (Professor, Faculty of Law, Keio University)
This book summarizes two years of research activities by IoB-S, the ELSI team of the Kanai Project. Normally, in social science, the usual practice is to deepen knowledge carefully and then publish a collection of papers, but the pace of technological development is now rapid, with exploration continuing endlessly. Therefore, even if unorganized, we decided to directly present our questions and arguments to the world in a live, real-time manner. I believe this is likely the first publication in Japan with “neurolaw” in its title.
Moving forward, we hope to use this as an opportunity to deepen dialogue with the natural scientists of the Moonshot project and conduct research that leads to the next steps.
About IoB-S
In October 2021, with the appointment of Dr. Keigo Komamura (Professor, Faculty of Law, Keio University) as a project promoter for the Moonshot Goal 1 Kanai Project Internet of Brains (IoB), a research unit called “Internet of Brains”-Society (IoB-S) was established to explore legal, ethical, and social issues (ELSI) in anticipation of the social implementation of neuroscientific technologies. Subsequently, in May 2022, IoB-S was also approved as a project by the Keio University Global Research Institute (KGRI). (From the official IoB-S website)
